We are proud today to share that our partner Community Solutions was awarded the MacArthur Foundation’s prestigious #100andChange grant for its Built for Zero initiative, a national movement to accelerate an end to homelessness. This $100 million award is a powerful endorsement of Built for Zero and the more than 80 communities nationwide who are working hard every day to build stronger systems that ensure every person has a safe and secure place to call home.
To date, 14 communities have reached Functional Zero for a population, proving that it is possible to end homelessness in a real and sustainable way. The #100andChange grant will allow Community Solutions to take this movement to the next level. By 2026, Community Solutions plans to accelerate an end to homelessness in 75 geographically and politically diverse communities, helping them reach functional zero for a population.
Rocket Mortgage has been a lead national partner of Built for Zero since 2018. In addition to providing philanthropic funding support for this critical initiative, Rocket Mortgage has taken a lead role in sharing the story of Built for Zero and working to help America see that ending homelessness is possible. In November, we released a new national commercial campaign featuring the story of John Meier, a Marine Corps veteran who experienced homelessness but was able to receive assistance and is now one of the key leaders that have helped his community of Abilene, TX reach Functional Zero for both veteran and chronic homelessness.
