Rocket Companies team members are our biggest community advocates. From supporting nonprofits by raising millions of dollars for the Community Challenge to participating in meaningful virtual volunteer experiences or even starting their own nonprofits, our team members care deeply about our communities and are always excited to get involved.
Our Volunteer Engagement and Giving team recently hosted a multi-day large scale volunteer event with Life Remodeled, a nonprofit organization that focuses on intentional and equitable revitalization of Detroit neighborhoods through repurposing old school buildings, renovating owner-occupied homes and mobilizing large groups of volunteers. For this opportunity, we bussed 100 Rocket Companies team members to the former Cooley High School every day for four days. Once there, team members helped landscape and cleanup efforts around Cooley High School. Life Remodeled plans to renovate this building into an opportunity hub, which will serve as a gathering place for community-building in the area. Many of the team members who volunteered are native Detroiters, and some attended Cooley High School before it closed permanently in 2010. “I actually grew up in a neighborhood not too far from here,” said Doniece Wilkins, a Recording Specialist at Rocket Mortgage who came to participate in the volunteer event. “So just coming back and being able to contribute has felt amazing.”
