Recently, the Rocket Community Fund partnered with Rocket Central to host our first ever Career Connections Event for Detroit talent. We brought over 150 Detroit high school and college students to our headquarters where they participated in a day of presentations, tours, networking and discussions with leaders and team members from across Rocket Companies. Detroit students explored Technology, Marketing, Banking, Business Development and other areas to help inform their decisions about their respective career paths. Students also had a chance to learn about the Rocket Intern Experience Program including how to apply for an internship.
The goal of the event was to showcase how Detroiters have a place at Rocket Companies. “We want folks to tangibly see themselves applying the education and learning they have, staying in Detroit, and working at Rocket,” said Jonathan Pulley, Career Education Program Director on the Rocket Community Fund’s Education and Employment team.
Ultimately, the Career Connections program has the added benefit of highlighting career opportunities that students may not have previously considered. “There was one encounter I had with a young man who told me that this [experience] changed his entire major and entire course of study because…he found himself an entirely new career path by spending a couple of hours walking our floors and engaging with our team members,” said Jayme Powell, Director of Education and Employment at the Rocket Community Fund.
We are excited to build upon this program as an annual event to continue supporting the next generation of Detroit talent!
