The right to digital access is more than just a privilege – it’s a necessity for building opportunity and equity in our communities. It’s for this reason that the Rocket Community Fund has put so much effort and resources into bridging the digital divide in Detroit.
The Rocket Mortgage Classic’s “Changing the Course” initiative has made significant progress in enabling Detroiters to access the digital world and the opportunities that it offers. Since 2019, the Rocket Mortgage classic has raised over $4.3M to bridge the digital divide, and Changing the Course has launched 22 new tech hubs, representing every district in Detroit! Rocket Companies is also the largest donor of e-waste to Human I-T, a nonprofit dedicated to empower people with digital resources while also creating a greener planet.
Recently, we joined Human I-T to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the opening of Human I-T on 7 Mile, the first brick and mortar digital equity store in the nation! This one-of-a-kind retail space offers qualifying customers discounts on laptops and high-speed internet, technical resource training, free and low-cost internet plans, and onsite technical support. The store was made possible thanks to support from both the Rocket Community Fund and General Motors.
Since opening their doors last summer, Human I-T has supported more than 8,000 Detroiters with digital resources, high-speed internet, technical assistance and more. Watch the video above to learn more about Human I-T on 7 Mile and discover the passionate people dedicated to making digital access a reality for all – starting right here in Detroit.
