Community impact is a hallmark of our culture here at the Rock Family of Companies. It’s one of the many reasons our team members are so engaged – they truly care about our communities and are always working to make a difference. We provide our team members with a variety of opportunities to make an impact, like virtual volunteering, group volunteering, company fundraisers and awarding volunteers grants they can donate to nonprofits of their choice. We are fully supportive of the many ways our team members choose to engage with our communities.
Previously, we’ve highlighted the stories of team members who go above and beyond to serve our communities. Team members like Oliva, John, Tiffany and others are a constant source of inspiration.
That’s why, each year we honor the team members who go above and beyond to make an impact in the communities we serve, through our VolunCheers recognition program. We ask team members to nominate their teammates who inspire them to engage with the community. Our Volunteer Engagement and Giving team vets the nominees through an extensive questionnaire, looking for concrete examples of those who are truly passionate about making a difference.
Ultimately, those chosen to be recognized as VolunCheers are the rockstar volunteers, the super fundraisers, and the passionate community advocates who encourage their teammates to get involved!
One example is Rocket Central team member Amy Hemmeter, who was nominated by three different teammates for her work in the community. “Amy raised over $1200 for Southwest Detroit Environmental Vision (SDEV), an organization specific to Detroit and helping preserve the natural areas around the city,” explained teammate Daniel McClure, who nominated her for VolunCheers. “She also works with Citizens’ Climate Lobby, a grassroots organization whose mission is to create legislation to protect the environment and fight climate change. This year, they successfully worked with congress members to co-sponsor a carbon tax bill.” Teammate Wen Wen also mentioned Amy’s fundraising efforts in her nomination. She is continually inspired by Amy’s devotion to environmental causes. “Amy takes her passion for sustainability and channels it into helping the local community,” Wen Wen said.
Another team member, Paul Pickett, was nominated for volunteering an impressive 178 hours in 2021. “Paul provided career development assistance to veterans via Hire Heroes USA. He also helped equip and empower fathers to be a positive and active presence in the lives of their children through F.A.R.M. (Family Assistance for Renaissance Men). Additionally, he actively volunteered with his church to support the basic needs of Detroiters and the local community, said Rocket Mortgage team member Paul Minor, who nominated his teammate.
We are grateful to team members like Amy, Paul, and countless other VolunCheers who inspire and encourage their 30,000 teammates to make a meaningful impact in the communities we call home. Congratulations to all our 2021 VolunCheers recipients. We see you – thank you for making a difference!
